I had a great weekend! For the first time, I spoke not just at Mavuno but also at the Mavuno Downtown service at Ufungamano House. I really experienced God’s grace in a phenomenal way at all three services, all of each went really well. MDT is a pretty cool church! For those not in the know, we are in the process of aligning our systems so that we operate as one church in two locations. Our team off-site last week was attended by staff from both churches and we had a great time of bonding. I can’t wait to see what God does this year as we work together to reach our city!
Today we launch Mizizi. If you or one of your friends, colleagues or family members hasn’t done it yet, please don’t just invite them; come with them to ensure they connect! This could be the best thing you ever do for them. Please pray the launch goes superbly. Also this weekend, we have a team visiting from Mariners Church, CA. This is a church we’ve had a lot of interaction with recently and they’ve recently launched Mizizi at their church using the name ‘Rooted’ to better connect with their culture. The team will include their senior pastor as well as quite a few other pastors and elders. Please pray that they’ll have a great time here and that God will lead as we discuss what it is we can do together than neither of us could do apart. With a whole world to be won, our conviction is that God wants His church globally to work in unity in mutually enhancing partnerships.
I’m really enjoying reading devotionally through the book of John. In Jn.6:60-71, many of Jesus’ groupies deserted him because of His claims to be the source of life. They were fine with him as a great teacher or as a miracle worker but felt this was too much! Even today, it’s fashionable to believe that Jesus was a good teacher/sage or maybe at best, one of several different paths to God. Yet Jesus claimed to be much more than that; just before this He said that He was the living bread, the only source of life, and that no one could hope to see God or experience eternal life except through Him! And the way to experience this life that we were created for is through believing and obeying His words. When the going got tough and the not-so-tough got going though, Peter and friends stayed put. ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life’.
Lord, I pray that I will stay connected with You, and that I will feed on Your word every day for the rest of my life. Your words are life! They shape my reality and tell me who I really am. May I serve you forever, not just here on earth but throughout eternity. Help me not to be tempted to turn to other sources for validation or identity.
