Preachin’ just ain’t what it used to be!

Was going through my photo library and found some photos of me preaching different sermon series at Mavuno. Since when did the preacher become a part of the decor? (-:

Seriously though, it’s been fun being part of a leadership team that is not afraid to do whatever it takes to help my generation understand and apply God’s word to their lives.

Have a creative week!

  1. Hey Pastor M,

I’m mainly commenting so that I’m first on this new site 😉

Its also been fantastic being part of a Church leading the movement to impact this generation. Looking forward to even more creativity in the coming months and years!

  2. Hi
I love the new site! The “previous articles” column is much easier to retrieve.
Oh and I love the samburu ligalia.I almost din recognize you in it.

  3. Should have read “church just aint what it used to be” …..but neither is the world- everything went high- tech and so did the level of evil …. I am glad to be part of a church that is fighting this war with the relevant weapons….Keep on doing the good work….

  4. Hi guys, thanks for being the first to visit! Well put Alice. And Wendy, it was actually ancient Egyptian! We did a series in 06 called ‘I Have A Dream’ on the life of Joseph and I was supposed to look like one of the Pharaohs. Definitely one of our more creative outfits!

  5. Hi Pastor M,

God has truly sent you as an apostle to our generation and creativity is part of it. Thank you for the vision, inspiration and example your ministry is through Mavuno. You inspire us to live our purpose with passion and make a difference to our generation. May God continue to richly bless you and your family.

  6. Hey Pastor M,
Nice move the new site and yeah the ancient Egypt thing got me.. excellent, I pray that under your spiritual leadership, I will like you internalize the purpose that God created me for to be able to not help but wake up each morning to live it! thanks Pastor M you are a gift to me and my family

  7. Though this i am not necessarily talking about the sermon, i thught it important for me to share what God has placed in my heart to say.

We must find a way to de-mystify the Bible. It feels like too many people are resistant to salvation because of the cost of what would inevitably have to be given up. The pleasures of the world have infiltrated our way of thinking so much that it has become hard to let go of.
This is called “dumbing it down”; having desensitised evil to the point that now it is acceptable. Swearing, pornography, habitual alcohol abuse. I see the trauma being allowed to manifest in the youth and I feel something must be done. Especially because I have been there before; the sex, the drugs, the alcohol, the total disregard for responsibility or authority. We have become an individualistic society, due to the lack of role models and with few people taking a stand.
“…a city on a hill cannot be hidden.” Mathew 5:14. What happened to the courageous Christian? At some point I feel Christians try too hard, and instead of taking Christ to the world, we take the world and bring it to Christ! And this difference is sometimes difficult to detect. The line is thin. Because of desensitisation…the world has camouflaged its darkness. But we are not blind; we are afraid to take the stand.
Because we have gotten saved, we are not meant to go through struggle because, to the world, we come off as weak. But who’s perception do you seek after? For the world will hate you regardless of what you do, where you fail or how much you succeed. I struggle and I accept that. But, the difference is that, my failure is more a victory because God has used it to teach me another life-long lesson I would never have learned if not for the trial. Dust yourself off and try again. And again, and again. Do not set your benchmark on the standards that society has set but instead set your standards on the Christ, the One that is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Yes I can!
I wish and to be a beacon of light. For God to use me and to help those that are in the struggle, to profess His greatness, His goodness, regardless of the consequences the world may sanction me. I wish the opportunity to teach, to be the encouragement and motivation for all Christians, young and old, but especially, the world. It’s possible. It’s possible that God could use me, once an adulterer, a drunkard, a liar, thief, murderer, to do His will. Will you take that stand with me today?

Thank you for the opportunity to speak my mind and I thank you for welcoming me to your beautiful church. May God bless you and keep you.
    Amen

  10. Fanis, I hear you. You’re not alone; I know a lot of Kenyans who have been in your situation! My encouragement is even though you might not have papers and money, God has given you exposure to another culture, and with it the ability to see opportunities where others who don’t have the same exposure might not. Open your eyes and look out for those opportunities. What are those things that bug you that you wish someone could do something about? Every problem is a business opportunity!

Meanwhile, I encourage you to look out for volunteer opportunities as its important as you trust God to make a way that you are contributing to something significant. It will also help you feel much better about yourself. Praying for you as you settle back home. May God give you much grace and make a way for you in this trial, even though it may seem right now that there is none (1Cor.10:13)

  11. Forgot to say thanks for the comments Mark. And Jules, 5 months is a (relatively) short time! Live out your good old days now and see you soon!

  12. Hey Pastor M,

Im really inspired by Team Mavuno and what God has done for Kenya through Mavuno church. You are truly raising “ordinary people into Fearless Influencers Of Society” by example. How i wish all our leaders would follow Mavunos example. Mavuno reminds me of the David and Goliath story and i believe a few commited Christians can transform a society. The sermons on Mavuno blog have really bn a blessing to me and my friends. I live in canada and being so far a way from home its your words of encouragement, hope and prayer that keep us going. I just got married two months ago and what a better time to listen to “happily ever after” Im now practising “work on me pray for them” and it does work. I now know what to expect from your sermon. We are still on the dream stage so no drama yet 🙂
I cant wait to listen to happily ever after 2. When i listen to this sermons i feel like im sitting at the first row in mavuno and its awesome to do so as i work. Thank you so much for the amazing work you are doing for mavunites in Kenya and everywhere else. The ripple effect of Mavuno is now global and im Thanking God for you and your family.

  13. Me am for the Old time religion. I love the idea of bringing the youth here to church by all means but do not do away with the old time religion. The world is no worse than it was during the time of Sodom and Gomorah, and the old time religion worked. Lets tell people the truth, Jesus is coming soon and It won’t be long, we need to change… “The storm is coming, lets build the arch… the storm is near, the arch is already build let get in and be saved’

John the Baptist used to preach Matthew 3:2 says, ‘Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ I would like us to be more relevant in our message.

I dont know whether you know this song… but I love it.

Give me that old time religion
    Tis the old time religion,
    Tis the old time religion,
And it’s good enough for me.

It was good for our mothers.
It was good for our mothers.
It was good for our mothers.
And it’s good enough for me.

Give me that old time religion
    Tis the old time religion,
    Tis the old time religion,
And it’s good enough for me.

    Makes me love everybody.
    Makes me love everybody.
    Makes me love everybody.
And it’s good enough for me.

Give me that old time religion
    Tis the old time religion,
    Tis the old time religion,
And it’s good enough for me.

    It has saved our fathers.
    It has saved our fathers.
    It has saved our fathers.
And it’s good enough for me.

Give me that old time religion
    Tis the old time religion,
    Tis the old time religion,
And it’s good enough for me.

It will do when I am dying.
It will do when I am dying.
It will do when I am dying.
And it’s good enough for me.

Give me that old time religion
    Tis the old time religion,
    Tis the old time religion,
And it’s good enough for me.

It will take us all to heaven.
It will take us all to heaven.
It will take us all to heaven.
And it’s good enough for me.

Give me that old time religion
    Tis the old time religion,
    Tis the old time religion,
And it’s good enough for me.

It was good for the Hebrew children
It was good for the Hebrew children
It was good for the Hebrew children
And it’s good enough for me

It will bring you out of bondage
It will bring you out of bondage
It will bring you out of bondage
And it’s good enough for me

It will do when the world’s on fire
It will do when the world’s on fire
It will do when the world’s on fire
And it’s good enough for me
